Icc rejects khawaja’s appeal: report0

The International Cricket Council denied Usman Khawaja’s request to vacate the punishment he received for donning a black armband in the first Test match against Pakistan, therefore the punishment will remain in effect, as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald on Sunday.

The International Criminal Court censured Khawaja last month for representing the children who have died in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since last October by wearing the black armband.

The 37-year-old opener had contested the punishment, claiming that he was grieving a personal loss and needed the armband.

The Sydney Morning Herald, however, reported today that Khawaja’s appeal had been denied, citing “a source close to the situation who wished to remain anonymous ahead of any public announcement being made.”

There are no monetary or playing consequences associated with an ICC reprimand.

International matches cannot be used by players to promote political, religious, or racial agendas, according to ICC rules.

But with the ICC’s approval, cricketers may wear black armbands to remember loved ones who have passed away, whether they were players or family members.
