Young Towhid Hridoy had another great day with the bat. His perfect burst helped the Jaffna Kings beat Shakib Al Hasan and the Galle Titans by eight wickets on Friday at Pallekele in the Lanka Premier League.
Hridoy fooled the smart Shakib on his way to a fast 44 off 23 balls, which helped Jaffna Kings beat Galle Titans’ goal of 118 runs with 44 balls to spare.
After Charith Asalanka was taken out by Shakib in the third over, Hridoy charged him by skipping down the ground. Hridoy is the Test and T20I captain for his national team. In that throw, Hridoy could only get a single.
But the next time Hridoy faced Shakib, he hit successive deliveries from the left-arm spinner for a six and a boundary. Shakib got the edge of Hridoy’s bat once, but the young right-handed batter’s luck was on his side and the ball went through for a four.
Hriody hit four sixes and two fours, and he and Rahmanullah Gurbaz were the stars of an 83-run second-wicket stand. Gurbaz got 54 runs from 39 balls.
Gurbaz was taken out by Shakib in the 12th over, but Hridoy hit two sixes in the next over to get the Jaffna Kings to victory.
Shakib could only score six runs in nine balls when he was at bat. In four overs with the bowl, he took two wickets and gave up 31 runs.
