Fans and analysts alike are in a state of complete disbelief after learning that the West Indies did not make it into the One-Day International World Cup that will be held in India. For the very first time in history, the Caribbeans will not be able to participate in the showcase event.

“This is probably one of the lowest points I’ve had with the team,” Holder remarked immediately after the two-time defending champions suffered a devastating defeat against Scotland by seven wickets in their Super Six match at the qualifying event in Zimbabwe on Saturday.

“However, you should be aware that despite everything, there are still many bright spots. Because of the way that Nicholas Pooran played for the entirety of the tournament, I was incredibly thrilled for him. And it’s great to see some of the younger men getting a chance to show what they’ve got on the big stage.

Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Leeward Islands, Trinidad & Tobago, and Windward Islands make up the six associations that make up Cricket West Indies (CWI), the governing body of the squad. CWI is also known as Cricket West Indies.

Holder urged his players to avoid having a “territorial” perspective and instead come together “as a region” for the benefit of the sport as a whole.

“It’s not an individual thing, and it’s not a territorial thing,” he said of cricket. As a region, we have to find a way to work together… …and really, really think about how we want to move ahead as a group and make it happen,” one of the leading all-rounders said at the post-match presser on Saturday. He said that there is no short-term patchwork that would improve West Indies cricket and that changes will have to take place from the grassroots level.

Holder stated that the West Indies squad has been experiencing a “fluctuation” in their performances over the past several years, which may indicate that he had anticipated this day.

We simply did not play up to our potential. Perhaps over the course of the last couple of years, we have not been playing quite as good as we are capable of.”There have been too many fluctuations between good performances and bad performances (in the last few years), and it’s a matter for us to understand where we are, and all of us need to put our hands on the deck to make it (turnaround) happen,” the manager said.
