According to reliable sources, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to keep Gamini de Silva on as the chief curator of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. This decision would keep him in his position till 2025.
On Monday, the current board, which is being headed by BCB President Nazmul Hassan, had their ninth board meeting, during which they voted to accept the renewal of the contract.
The previous deal with the Sri Lankan athlete was set to last through 2023. The handling of his contract renewals has included the addition of a two-year extension, so this is nothing out of the ordinary for him.
Gamini first arrived as head curator in 2010, and it is widely believed that his understanding with current head coach Chandika Hathurusingha was key to the success of the Tigers on home soil during Hathurusingha’s previous tenure as the Tigers’ head coach. During this time, the Tigers defeated top Test nations such as England in 2016 and Australia in 2017 while playing at home at Mirpur.
During this time, it came to light that Praveen Hinganikar, the chief curator of the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, had made the decision to leave his position. This year, the curator was traveling in India when he was involved in a terrible car accident.
