Today, at the age of 89, Zahirul Haque died away. He was a former national team player and captain of Mohammedan Sporting Club.
Haque, who had been dealing with age-related issues for some time, had a heart attack on Thursday. He was brought to the Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhaka and passed away at 7:00 am on Saturday.
The football star will have his namaz-e-janazas at Paikpara after the Asr prayers and in Manipuri Para following the Maghrib prayers. The Banani Graveyard will be the last resting place for him.
After beginning his professional football career in 1954 with Tejgaon Friends Union Club, Haque played for Mohammedan for the last 17 years until retiring in 1977. after leading the team for five years as captain.
The defender spent the 1960s playing for Pakistan’s national football team in domestic and international competitions and tours before switching to Bangladesh’s national team after independence.
Among his many accolades for his work in football are the 2001 National Sports Award and a number of others.
In the wake of Haque’s passing, his wife, two kids, and two daughters, as well as many friends and family members, were left to grieve.
