Afghanistan’s 16-person team for the one-day international series against Pakistan will include ace spinner Rashid Khan. This was announced on Sunday.

As both teams get ready for the Asia Cup at the end of this month and the ODI World Cup in October, they will play their first-ever match against each other in Sri Lanka.

The 24-year-old is thought to be the best bowler in white-ball cricket in the world. He played in the Major League Twenty20 in the US, but pulled out of The Hundred in the UK last week because of an illness.

Noor Ahmad, an 18-year-old left-armer, is also back on Afghanistan’s team. He will join Rashid in the spin attack.

Asadullah Khan, who is in charge of team selection for the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), said that the team is getting ready for the big events coming up.

In a statement put out by the ACB, Khan said, “This three-match ODI series against Pakistan gives us a great chance to prepare the team for the next two events.”

The first two ODIs will be played in Hambantota on August 22 and 24, and the third will be played in Colombo on August 26.

The Asia Cup starts on August 30, with four games in Pakistan and the other nine in Sri Lanka. The World Cup, on the other hand, is held in India from October 5 to November 19.

Pakistan and Afghanistan have played each other in four ODIs so far. Two of these games were at the Asia Cup and one was at the World Cup in 2019.
