The recent ODI series victory over India by the Bangladesh women’s cricket team was reflected in their rise in the ICC rankings.
The last one-day international between Bangladesh and India concluded in a stalemate, making the series 1-1. In the third game, Fargana Hoque made history by being the first woman from Bangladesh to hit a century in the format. The T20I series was previously defeated by the Tigresses by a score of 2-1.
Fargana and spinner Nahida Akter both reached career highs in the most recent weekly update, which took into account their efforts in the last two games of the series, which counted toward the ICC Women’s Championship.
After hitting 107 in the tied final ODI at Mirpur, Fargana became the first Bangladeshi batter to crack the top 20 (at position 19) with her 565 rating points. Prior to this, Rumana Ahmed’s highest finish was 25th in February of 2017.
Nahida’s three for 37 in the last ODI propelled her to 19th place in the bowling rankings, where she remains today. In December of 2022, Salma Khatun was the finest Bangladeshi bowler to date, placing 20th.
Harleen Deol of India moved up 32 spots to 51st after scoring 77 runs and leading her side to victory in the last ODI, while Jemimah Rodrigues of Australia moved up 41 spots to 55th after scoring the winning run in the second ODI. While Sneh Rana moved up the rankings by four spots to number 38, bowler Deepti Sharma into the top 10.
Meanwhile, England’s Natalie Sciver-Brunt ascended to the top of the batting rankings for the first time in her career after scoring a century in the decisive one-day international (ODI) of England’s ICC Women’s Championship series against Australia in Taunton on Tuesday.
Sciver-Brunt won out Australia’s Beth Mooney with a score of 129, after an undefeated 111 in the previous match. She now holds a 39-point advantage in the all-rounder standings over West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews.
