Angel Di Maria of Argentina has re-signed with Benfica after leaving Juventus, the Portuguese giants confirmed on Wednesday. Di Maria had previously played for Juventus.
The 35-year-old former World Cup champion left Juve in order to become a free agent last month, amid rumors that a club in Saudi Arabia may be interested in signing him.
However, Di Maria went against the grain by signing with Benfica after spending the previous seven years of his career with Paris Saint-Germain before spending one season at Juventus.
“Angel Di Maria has signed a contract with Sport Lisboa e Benfica and is a new addition to the team led by Roger Schmidt,” Benfica stated in a statement, without providing any additional specifics. “Angel Di Maria is a new addition to the team led by Roger Schmidt.”
Di Maria had previously played for the Lisbon club between the years of 2007 and 2010, before moving on to play for Real Madrid for five seasons and Manchester United for one season prior to his current stint in Paris.
