During a break in play caused by environmental protesters on the first day of the second Ashes Test at Lord’s on Wednesday, England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow wrestled one of the demonstrators to the ground.

Jonny Bairstow successfully took the protester to the ground.

Just before Stuart Broad bowled the second over, two protesters from Just Stop Oil raced out of the grandstand and onto the outfield. They sprinkled the signature orange powder that the organization uses during demonstrations on the square but not on the pitch itself.

Bairstow was able to subdue one of the protesters and carry them off the field of play, while the other protester was taken into custody by stewards.

At Lord’s, which is known as the “spiritual Home of Cricket” and is located in north-west London, an additional protester was stopped before making it onto the pitch.

The demonstrators were escorted out of the building by security guards as the audience jeered at them.

Play was resumed with Broad bowling from the Nursery End after a pause of several minutes during which time ground officials cleaned the orange powder from the playing surface.

This match was Just Stop Oil’s most recent protest against a British sporting event, after similar demonstrations at the Premiership rugby final at Twickenham and the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield.

Earlier this month, the England team bus that was carrying them to Lord’s for the one and only test match against Ireland was also delayed because to Just Stop Oil.
