Atletico Madrid took the lead in the second half thanks to a goal scored by Memphis Depay in the 66th minute. Depay took a pass from Angel Correa on the outskirts of the box and then shot the ball past Stefan Ortega, who had taken over in goal for Ederson at halftime.
A second goal was scored by Yannick Carrasco in the 74th minute of the game from the edge of the penalty area.

Erling Haaland, who has a history of scoring goals, was on the field for 55 minutes but was unable to score.
