After having a very routine procedure, Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus will be sidelined for the beginning of the new Premier League season, Gunners manager Mikel Arteta said on Wednesday.

After Arsenal’s victory against Monaco in a preseason game decided by penalty shootout, Arteta said that the player had to have a little operation that morning. “Unfortunately, he had a little procedure this morning,” Arteta stated.

“He had some discomfort in his knee that had been causing some issues, and they had to go in and resolve it. It had been causing him some problems.” Although it is not a serious issue, it seems that he will be out for a few weeks at least.

We had him back to his best, particularly the way he performed against Barcelona, and he was in terrific shape, and we lost him. It is a tremendous setback because we had him back to his best.

After making an impressive start to his Manchester United career after moving from Manchester City, Jesus was sidelined for three months with a knee injury suffered during the World Cup.

On Sunday, Arsenal will compete against Premier regular champions City in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium. On the following day, August 12, the Gunners will open their regular season at home against Nottingham Forest.
