Giorgian de Arrascaeta, a midfielder from Uruguay, became a hero on social media after he saved a horse that was wandering in the middle of a street in a small town in northern Brazil. A picture of the player and the animal went viral on social media.
A fan took a photo with Arrascaeta, a Flamengo player in Brazil, holding a horse. Arrascaeta later explained on social media that he had picked up the horse and left it in a safe area where it could eat grass.
Arrascaeta’s father was a jockey and passed on his love for horses to his son, who now owns and races three horses. The 28-year-old soccer player scored two goals for Uruguay in their final group game against Ghana during the World Cup.
Last month, he got hurt in the Carioca Championship semi-final between Flamengo and Vasco da Gama, which caused an injury to his left thigh. He won’t be able to come back until May.
