The England and Wales Cricket board (ECB) announced late on Sunday evening that England seamer James Anderson had suffered a groin injury while playing for Lancashire. Anderson’s fitness will need to be evaluated prior to the Ashes warm-up Test that will be played against Ireland the following month.
The injury occurred on the opening day of the match versus Somerset at Old Trafford, and the diagnosis was a “mild groin strain.” The player, who is 40 years old, was forced to leave the field on Thursday after incurring it.
According to a statement released by the ECB, “His fitness will be assessed closer to the time of the test match against Ireland,” which will begin at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London on Thursday, June 1, 2023.
When bowling together, Anderson and Stuart Broad, 36, constitute the most successful wicket-taking duo in the annals of test cricket, and the hosts will be doing all in their power to ensure that they do so when they face Australia in a series of five matches beginning in the middle of June.
After being ruled out for the rest of this season’s Indian Premier League (IPL) owing to a chronic elbow injury, England are already sweating on the fitness of Jofra Archer for the series. Last week, the paceman was ruled out for the remainder of this season’s IPL.
