In June, Bangladesh is scheduled to face Afghanistan at home in one Test match, three One-Day Internationals, and two Twenty20 Internationals; however, the locations of these matches have not yet been decided. The series will be broken up into two different parts. BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus briefed traveling media in Chelmsford yesterday that Afghanistan would play the one-off Test before heading to India for a white-ball series during Eid ul Adha before returning back to Bangladesh to play the ODIs and T20Is. Afghanistan will then return to Bangladesh to play the ODIs and T20Is.
Since we had to move things around earlier, we won’t know for sure where the new locations will be until a day or two from now. Earlier, it was decided that they would compete in one of the formats and then make their way back to India thereafter. Jalal has already stated that Afghanistan will travel back from India and continue to compete in the series.
There being a delay in the confirmation of Afghanistan’s series against India, and because the series would take place around Eid holidays, the BCB was inclined to accede with Afghanistan’s request to play the matches earlier than scheduled.
They were not permitted to be there for Eid even if they wanted to. They were looking forward to the India series, but it wasn’t looking promising at this point. As soon as it was established, Afghanistan submitted a request stating that they desired to travel play India after participating in one of the formats. We agreed to it because it is also the holiday season where we are,” Jalal had remarked before. The delayed schedule is causing problems for Bangladesh’s World Cup preparations.
In addition to the three One-Day Internationals and the two Tests, Afghanistan was initially slated to play three Twenty20 Internationals. One of the Tests was called off earlier, and now one of the Twenty20 Internationals has also been called off.
