Afghanistan was facing some embarrassment after romping to a series victory over Bangladesh after losing five wickets for 32 runs in the first 16 overs of today’s third ODI in Chattogram.
The visitors chose to bat first despite being without their star spinner Rashid Khan, but they quickly found themselves in trouble as Shoriful Islam wreaked havoc.
As Afghanistan lost three wickets early in the innings, including previous match’s century duo Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, the left-arm pacer delivered two blows in his second over.
Zadran (1) and Rahmat Shah (0) were both caught behind by Shoriful, who replaced Mustafizur Rahman as part of three substitutions, due to movement and bounce off the field.
Gurbaz (6), who had scored 145 in the previous game, was subsequently eliminated by Taskin Ahmed with a short ball.
Before Shakib Al Hasan defeated Najibullah Zadran (10) Shoriful claimed his third wicket by LBWing Mohammad Nabi (1).
In 16 overs, the visitors had 32 for five.
After losing the first two games of the series by scores of 17 and 142 runs, respectively, Bangladesh is trying to avoid being the first ODI home series to be completely swept since 2014.
