The pacers for Afghanistan made good use of the morning session as they were able to capture three early wickets inside the first five overs of play to leave Bangladesh eight wickets down for 375 in the first session of the second day of the lone Test that was played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
The match was the only one being played.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehedi Hasan Miraz were removed for 47 and 48 respectively, preventing them from reaching their fifty-run milestones. Bangladesh’s tailender Taijul was unable to navigate a short one bowled by bowler Nijat Masood.
The first person to be eliminated was Miraz. The right-handed hitter sent Yamin Ahmadzai’s full-length delivery outside off-stump to backward-point off the bowling.
Mushfiqur was defeated by the quick bowler Nijat Masood, who used a back-of-a-length ball that rose sharply off the wicket to get the better of him. This caught Mushfiqur by surprise, and the batsman was unable to react, so he could only fend at it as the ball got an edge off the shoulder of the bat and went to second slip.
During the same over, Taijul smacked a short one right to short-leg.
