Nazmul Hassan Papon, the head of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), expressed his dissatisfaction after the Bangladesh Tigers and subsequently the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team both ended up on the losing side over the course of consecutive days.
At the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday, the women’s side captained by Nigar Sultana Joty lost to India by seven wickets. The match took place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
The day before, the Tigers were defeated by Afghanistan in the second one-day international (ODI) in the three-match series, which resulted in them losing the series despite having one match remaining in the schedule. They were defeated by 142 runs.
Papon expressed his displeasure with the losses and stated he was upset, but he didn’t want to give up all hope for the women’s team because they were competing against a team like India. It appeared that the off-field issues had a combined effect on Papon, which looked to have taken its toll on him.
“It goes without saying that I am discouraged, and it appears that every other person in the country feels the same way.” However, I am not completely disheartened by the result of the women’s competition,” Papon stated to the reporters in Mirpur earlier today.
“The women’s squad from India is among the best in the world. My evaluation indicates that they are one of the top three options available. Despite this, they (Bangladesh) turned up a good performance. They will do admirably. We are unable to provide them with the same amenities that are provided to the India team. However, they have a lot of promise,” was what he remarked.
“Today marks their very first visit to this location. They informed me that they had never played a match at the home of cricket before to our meeting, and I found this to be quite interesting. They yearned to compete in the Mirpur tournament. I gave them my word that it would take place the following time we played,” he said.
After the loss in the first one-day international against Afghanistan on Thursday, Tamim Iqbal revealed that he will be retiring from international cricket. This news sent shockwaves through the country’s cricket community. However, after speaking with the Prime Minister Sheikh the very next day, he changed his mind and decided against it.
