West Indies miss out on World Cup after Scotland loss

West indies miss out on world cup after scotland loss0

After suffering a crushing defeat at the hands of Scotland by seven wickets in their Super Six match at the qualifying event in Zimbabwe on Saturday, the two-time defending champion West Indies were eliminated from contention for the 50-over Cricket World Cup for the very first time.

The West Indies were able to score 181 runs before being dismissed after 43.5 overs because Scotland won the toss and opted to bat first. The best bowling performance came from Brandon McMullen, who finished with 3-32 in nine overs.

McMullen scored 69 runs for Scotland during their pursuit of the mark, which only took them 43.3 overs to complete. Opener Matthew Cross remained undefeated on 74 runs throughout Scotland’s innings.

It is Scotland’s first victory over the West Indies in one-day international cricket, and it could not have happened at a more opportune moment for them.

As a result of losing all three of their Super Six stage matches, the West Indies have accumulated 0 points and are unable to catch up to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, who both have six points from their three contests.

The victory gives Scotland four points, and they continue to compete for a spot in the tournament despite having upcoming matches against Zimbabwe and the Netherlands.

The World Cup will be held in India from October 5th through November 19th, and the top two teams in the Super Six standings will qualify for the tournament.

The West Indies were victorious in the first two tournaments, which were held in 1975 and 1979, and came in second place in the third event.
