Bangladesh has never beaten New Zealand in an ODI or T20I in their own country. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto stated that the team’s goal on this white-ball tour is to win the series against the hosts.

The Tigers have played New Zealand in 16 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) at home, winning none. The latest ODI series concluded 3-0 in favor of the hosts in 2021, with Bangladesh losing by a wide margin against the Kiwis.

The Tigers are coming off a 1-1 series draw in the Test series against the Kiwis, after losing the ODIs at home 2-0 before to the World Cup in India. However, the 2022 Test victory over New Zealand at Mount Maunganui instilled newfound confidence in the Tigers under Shanto.

“To be honest, we want to win this series as a team.” We have a strong team, and we won one Test match here last year. So another goal this time is to win the series because it will be excellent for our team,” Shanto said today during the trophy unveiling ceremony with Kiwi skipper Tom Latham.

Bangladesh is also encouraged by their win over New Zealand XI on Thursday, in which they hit 300-plus runs and won by 26 runs.

“I thought the boys played some good cricket, and the wicket was fantastic.” Everyone is doing their part to prepare. “The New Zealand eleven played some good cricket, so it was a great practice match and gives us confidence for this series,” he continued.

The first of three one-day internationals (ODIs) begins on Sunday, December 17 at 4:00 a.m. Bangladesh time.
