With his 38-run effort in the first innings of the second Test against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground today, Australia opener David Warner became the country’s second-highest run-scorer across three formats.
In international cricket, the left-hander has 18,515 runs in 460 innings at an average of 42.56.
When Warner walked to the middle to begin the innings, he needed 20 runs to overtake Steve Waugh’s score of 18496 runs.
The opener, who was dropped on two by Abdullah Shafique, surpassed the century mark in the 16th over with a boundary off Hasan Ali.
He couldn’t go on much longer, however, since he was apprehended by Agha Salman.
Warner, on the other hand, is still behind Ricky Ponting, who leads the leaderboard with 27,368 runs in 667 innings.
