Warner ‘clearly in Australia’s plans’ for Ashes

Warner 'clearly in australia’s plans' for ashes0

The Australian cricket team is certain that David Warner will have a successful Ashes series and have put their faith in him to perform well at the top of the order.

After a challenging tour of India, the selectors were on the fence about whether or not the left-handed batter would be included in the Ashes series against England. However, on Wednesday, the head coach Andrew McDonald gave the batter a definitive vote of confidence.

“We’re optimistic with what Dave’s got left, we’ve picked him in the squad, and we feel he’ll play a really big part in the Ashes and the World Test Championship,” McDonald said in an interview with the Australian radio station SEN. “We’ve picked him in the squad and we feel he’ll play a really big part in the Ashes and the World Test Championship.”

Warner was selected to be a part of Australia’s team for the World T20 final against India as well as the first two Ashes tests; however, the selectors left their options open at the top of the batting order by also calling up Marcus Harris and Matt Renshaw. Despite this, Warner was included in the squad.

McDonald went on to say that “He is an important part of that squad,” adding that “if he hadn’t been a part of it, we would’ve had a clear checkpoint after the WTC going into the Ashes.”

“That’s not the case, we’ve picked our squad for the first two Ashes tests as well, so it’s clear that he’s clearly in our plans and ready to go.”

Warner has had a difficult time scoring runs in recent tests, with the exception of a stubborn 200 he scored against South Africa in December. He made a total of 26 runs in three innings on the most recent tour of India before going home injured.

throughout the most recent Ashes trip, he had a terrible series in England, averaging 9.50, which is the poorest score ever recorded by an opener to play 10 innings in a series. The fast bowler Stuart Broad took his wicket seven times throughout the series.

In 2015, he had a stronger year overall, scoring 418 runs at a rate of 46.44 runs per game on average.

Warner concluded his time with the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League with 516 runs at an average of 36.86. This was a significant drop from his career average of 41.54.

“He’s in a good head space,” said McDonald. “He’s doing well.”

“I just got off the phone with him the day before last, and he’s all set to leave. When he gets back into the camp, he’s going to be incredibly enthusiastic.”

The first match of the Ashes series will take place on June 16 at Edgbaston. Following their 4-0 victory at home in the 2021-22 series, Australia is now in possession of the urn.
