The International Cricket Council (ICC) does not publicize the Emerging Umpiring panel any longer, although in the days before the epidemic, they did so on an official basis. After that, there is a group of five to seven umpires who make up the ICC Emerging Umpires panel, which is thought to be an officially unofficial panel. There are a total of 12 umpires that make up the ICC Elite panel. It has come to our attention that Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid Saikat, who hails from Bangladesh, has been invited to join the Emerging panel as a new member.
It was also discovered that Saikat would serve as a neutral umpire for the one-day international series that will take place in late September between West Indies and Afghanistan. The series will consist of three matches.
After the forthcoming series against Bangladesh in June, Saikat was scheduled to work as a neutral umpire for Afghanistan’s two-match Test series against Zimbabwe in Dubai during the month of July this year. The series was to take place in the middle of this year. Because this year is a World Cup year, the two boards have come to the conclusion that the Tests should be postponed indefinitely. As a result, Saikat will have to wait his turn.
Umpires are able to examine their impending assignments using an integrated management information system, which receives their draft from the International Cricket Council (ICC). Saikat has been handed the assignment to officiate the match between the Windies and Afghanistan. If he is able to demonstrate his worth, he will be allowed to continue serving on the Emerging panel.
“One of the allotments, the Afghanistan-Zimbabwe Tests, have been cancelled but the West Indies-Afghanistan ODIs remains and have been allotted to Saikat,” a source close to the situation revealed to The Daily Star. “One of the allotments, the West Indies-Afghanistan ODIs remains and has been allotted to Saikat.”
Chris Brown, who hails from New Zealand, Langton Rusere, who hails from Zimbabwe, Saikat, Alex Wharf, who hails from England, and Paul Wilson, who hails from Australia make up the newly reconstructed rising group.
Wilson, who was assigned to officiate the England-Ireland Test match that began on June 1 at Lord’s, was the most recent member of the reformed emerging group panel to be given a position on the field for a test match.
It is well knowledge that the ICC does not make a formal announcement when new members are added to the Emerging panel. They do it in an unofficial capacity, and when a foreign assignment is assigned, it is confirmed that the umpire in question is a member of the Emerging panel. A source close to BCB shared the following information: “He [Saikat] will have an assignment going forward, and at that time, it will be confirmed officially.”
When the appointment has been finalized, the umpires will be notified, and the ICC will also inform any relevant boards that they would be include a certain umpire in the match.
You will know that a certain umpire is a member of the Emerging panel when they are assigned an overseas match even though they are not on the ICC Elite panel of umpires. When an umpire from the Emerging panel works alongside an umpire from the Elite panel in a worldwide competition, this is still further sign that the umpire belongs to the Emerging panel. He continued by saying, “This Emerging panel is still a sort of unofficially official thing.”
Prior to this, the only umpire from Bangladesh to be selected for the Emerging panel was Enamul Haque Moni. In 2012, Moni presided over a match between New Zealand and Zimbabwe that took place in Napier, New Zealand. He has presided over 54 one-day internationals and 14 twenty-over internationals.
To this point, Saikat has served as an on-field umpire for a total of nine Tests, fifty One-Day Internationals, and 42 Twenty20 Internationals in the men’s game.
Saikat will now preside as an Emerging panel ICC umpire during the One-Day International series between the West Indies and Afghanistan, provided that unforeseen events do not lead to the cancellation of the series. It is hoped that Saikat would take the next step and become a member of the ICC Elite Panel because his performance has been characterized by their consistency.
