Jaffna Kings beat Colombo strikers by 21 runs in the first match of the Lanka Premier League on Sunday, thanks in large part to Towhid Hridoy’s half-century, which he made on his debut in international franchise cricket. The match was played against Colombo strikers.
After being assigned to bat first, the explosive Bangladesh batsman played a pivotal role in the reigning champion Jaffna’s innings by scoring 54 runs off of 39 balls. As a result, Jaffna recorded 173 runs for five in 20 overs. The highest score for the team was achieved by Hridoy, who hit three fours and a six during his innings. Dunith Wellalage’s undefeated 25 was the score that came in second place.
Strikers got off to a solid start in their attempt to win the run chase, despite the fact that they did not have Bangladesh’s Shoriful Islam in their lineup. However, they ultimately failed to win by 21 runs and were bowled out for 152 after 19.4 overs. The 58 not out scored by Niroshan Dickwella off of just 34 balls was the high point of the Colombo innings.
This season of the Bangladesh Premier League (LPL) will also include the participation of two additional Bangladeshi cricketers, namely Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Mithun, in addition to Hridoy and Shoriful.
During this match, Bangladeshi umpire Gazi Sohel made his debut in a league that is associated with a foreign team.
