According to a joint announcement made by the two clubs on Sunday, Brazilian full defender Alex Telles has left Manchester United to sign a deal with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr until the year 2025.
The 30-year-old forward, who won the Europa League while playing for Sevilla on loan last year, will be reunited with former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo at his new club. The Europa League was won by the forward when he was playing for Sevilla.
The specifics of the financial transaction were not made public, although media sources stated that Manchester United would get something in the neighborhood of 6 million pounds ($7.71 million) for the transfer.
“An exciting new journey is ahead for @AT13Official. On Twitter, United expressed their gratitude for everything and wished Alex the best of success.
Al-Nassr published a picture of the defender carrying their yellow shirt and a video in which Ronaldo could be seen smiling in the background. Both of these were posted simultaneously.
Since Ronaldo signed a megadeal to join Al-Nassr in December of 2017, the Saudi Pro League has become more popular among players.
In the previous season, Al-Nassr finished in second place in the league. However, early this month, FIFA placed a restriction on the club’s ability to register new players owing to outstanding debts.
The Nigerian striker Ahmed Musa went to Al-Nassr from English club Leicester City in 2018, and according to sources, the outstanding debts are tied to the sale of Musa.
FIFA issued a judgement in October 2021 stating that Al-Nassr was still had to pay Leicester a fee of 460,000 euros ($513,544) for the purchase of Musa. Musa had played 62 games for the Saudi Arabian club in all competitions and scored 14 goals before leaving in 2020.
