Ravichandran Ashwin, an off-spinner who is now ranked first overall in Test bowling, was left off of India’s eleven to play Australia in the just completed ICC World Test Championship Final. This decision came as a surprise to many people, especially given that Ravichandran Ashwin was not included in the eleven.
However, the 36-year-old, who stated that he knew 48 hours before the match that he would be dropped out of India’s starting line-up, was forced to watch as Australia won the WTC Final at the Oval by a score of 209 runs. He also revealed that he knew he would be left out of India’s starting line-up.
The right-arm spinner was also one of the standouts in the World T20 Cycle 2021-23. He finished with 61 wickets in 13 Tests, which placed him in third place for the most victims in the cycle.
Because of my role in getting us to this point, playing would have been a dream come true for me. Even in the most recent World T20 Championship Final, I grabbed four wickets and bowled pretty effectively,” Ashwin said in an interview with the Indian Express and Sportstar.
When Ashwin was asked whether he sought support from his colleagues after the loss, he responded that “it’s an isolated journey” for a professional in this era of cricket because of the way the game is played.
When cricket was still a popular sport, all of your teammates were people you got along with well. They work together now as colleagues. There is a significant divergence in that in this setting, individuals are present with the purpose of advancing oneself and gaining ground on the individual seated to one’s right or left. He continued by saying, “So, nobody has the time to say, ‘okay, boss, what are you up to.'”
Due to an ongoing ailment with his knee, Ashwin further disclosed that he came very near to retirement between the Border-Gavaskar series earlier this year and the WTC Final. However, he is now looking ahead as he want to prolong his career and is optimistic about the future.
