The much-anticipated schedule for the 2018 One-Day International (ODI) World Cup in India was released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) yesterday.
The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 5.
Tamim Iqbal, the captain of Bangladesh’s one-day international squad, said that the team’s experience and familiarity with the circumstances made him “very confident” in the team’s composition in front of the showcase tournament.
“This is the most important occasion. There is nothing that can compare to playing in a one-day World Cup since this format is the most difficult for white-ball cricket and constantly puts your game knowledge and temperament to the test. Because of the format of the event, there is no room for you to rest. “Every team is difficult, and there are no games that are a walk in the park,” added Tamim.
In light of the fact that Afghanistan will be the Tigers’ first opponent in the World Cup, they will be aiming for every mental advantage they can get their hands on in the next series that will be played at home beginning on July 5.
Although England’s match on October 10 at the same site will be a difficult test for the Tigers, the surface in Dharamsala, which is known for its gorgeous setting, may be of assistance to the Tigers’ pace unit when they play Afghanistan. The Tigers, on the other hand, are not unfamiliar with the location since they participated in the T20 World Cup there in 2016. They will play New Zealand in their third game, which will take place on the usually slow wickets in Chennai. This might work to their advantage as a subcontinent team.
After playing England in Dharamsala, Bangladesh will go to a few more places in India before concluding their schedule with a match in Pune.
“Every time I get to perform in India, I have a great time. The gratifying nature of the experience may be attributed to the exciting atmosphere, fantastic venues, and very informed cricket fans. Whenever we have performed there in the past, we have always been met with outstanding support. Tamim said this to the ICC.
“I have a great deal of faith in the team that we will be taking to the World Cup. The circumstances will be similar to what they have been in the past, and there is a good mix of experienced and talented players.
Warm-up matches will take place from September 29th to October 3rd in Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, and Hyderabad respectively, all in advance of the main event.
Even in their most successful performances in World Cups, Bangladesh has never managed to win more than three matches. The Tigers’ preparations leading up to the Afghanistan series will be very important if they want to make significant progress toward realizing their goals and aspirations beginning with that tournament.
