Sylhet Strikers captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza attempted to whack a few at the nets with the bat in his first training session of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League today at the Academy Ground in Mirpur, following a lacklustre performance with the ball on Friday in his side’s seven-wicket loss in their first BPL match.
Despite having played one match in the competition, this was the 40-year-old’s first practice session with his team. The veteran took roughly three steps in his limping run-up and claimed the wicket of Chattogram Challengers hitter Imranuzzaman with his first ball, but was thrashed later in the game.
His fitness difficulties forced him to bowl off-spin on a few times in the Dhaka Premier League in May 2023, his last appearance in competitive cricket. Sylhet Strikers, who face Rangpur Riders in Mirpur on Tuesday, will look on their captain to stand up.
