Former Barcelona, Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, and Ajax striker Luis Suarez will join Inter Miami for the 2024 season, the MLS team announced on Friday.
Suarez, 37, won four Liga crowns and the Champions League with Barcelona, as well as league titles with Ajax and Atletico.
He joins former Barcelona colleagues Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba in Miami.
“I’m very happy and excited to take on this new challenge with Inter Miami,” Suarez said in a statement. “I can’t wait to get started, and I’m ready to put in the effort necessary to make my dream of winning more titles with this fantastic club a reality.”
“With our shared ambition, I’m optimistic about what we can accomplish.” I will give my utmost to bring pleasure to these wonderful fans I’ve heard so much about while wearing Inter Miami colors, and I look forward to meeting with old friends and teammates.”
Suarez was crowned Best Player and Best Striker in the Brazilian league last season for Gremio, when he scored 26 goals and assisted on 17 more in 53 games.
David Beckham, a co-owner of Inter Miami and a former England and Manchester United player, was pleased by the signing of Suarez.
“We’re delighted to have a player of Luis’ quality and passion for the game join our club,” Beckham said in a statement. “He joins a squad that is inspiring the next generation and we look forward to seeing him take to the field.”
Suarez also helped Uruguay win the Copa America in 2011.
“We are delighted to welcome world-class striker Luis Suarez to Inter Miami,” stated Inter Miami managing owner Jorge Mas. “Luis is a fierce competitor whose winning drive embodies what we want out of our players.”
Over 283 games with Barcelona, the Uruguayan striker scored 195 goals and assisted on another 113.
In four seasons with Liverpool, he won the League Cup and scored 82 goals in 133 games, while at Atletico Madrid, he scored 34 goals in 83 appearances.
