Prabath Jayasuriya from Sri Lanka set a new record by becoming the quickest spinner to take 50 Test wickets, surpassing Alf Valentine from the West Indies who held the record for 72 years. Jayasuriya achieved this feat in just seven Test matches and 13 innings by dismissing Paul Stirling from Ireland on the fifth day of their second Test in Galle.

Jayasuriya has become the quickest bowler since Charlie Turner to take 50 wickets in a Test match. He achieved this after a great batting display and helped his team win by an innings and 10 runs. No other bowler has been able to surpass Turner’s record since 1888.

Sri Lanka won the second Test against Ireland by an innings and 10 runs, with Ramesh Mendis taking five wickets and Prabath Jayasuriya becoming the fastest spinner to reach 50 Test wickets. This victory gave Sri Lanka a 2-0 series sweep and marked their 100th Test win, while Ireland continued their losing streak in Test cricket.

Harry Tector tried to save the match by scoring 85 runs and partnering with the ninth wicket to add 41 runs, but Mendis took five wickets and Ireland was all out for 202 in their second innings. Asitha Fernando ended Tector’s resistance by bowling him with a yorker and also took the last wicket to secure a convincing victory.

Sri Lanka won the first Test by a huge margin of an innings and 280 runs. Although Ireland became a Test team in 2017, they have lost all of their six Test matches.
