Both Soumya Sarker and Sheikh Mahedi were selected to be a part of the Bangladesh team that would compete in the Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka the following month.
On Monday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) revealed that they will be fielding a team of 16 players, two of them were Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Zakir Hasan. Both of them participated in the one-off Test match that was played against Afghanistan earlier this week at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Zakir will serve as Saif Hasan’s deputy, while Saif Hasan will serve as the group’s leader.
Alongside a number of young players like Akbar Ali and Parvez Hossain Emon, Naim Sheikh, who was just brought back into the Tigers one-day international squad for the forthcoming series against Afghanistan in July, was also chosen to the side.
On July 14, Bangladesh A will kick off their tournament by playing Sri Lanka A in what would be their first game. Oman and Afghanistan A both play for the same team in this group. Group B includes Pakistan A, India A, Nepal, and the UAE as members of the group.
Oman and Afghanistan will be the opponents for Bangladesh in their next two group matches, which will take place on July 16 and 18, respectively. The top two teams in each group will advance to the semi-finals, which are set to take place on July 21, and the championship game is scheduled to take place on July 23.
