To start their Independence Cup campaign, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club beat Brothers Union 4-0 in their first game in Group A yesterday. This win secured their spot in the final eight and eliminated Brothers from the tournament.
In the one-way game at the Bashundhara Kings arena, Higor Rodriges Leite, a Brazilian forward for Sk Jamal, scored twice before halftime. Bladimir Diaz, a Colombian forward, and Sazzad Hossain each scored one goal.
Brothers had lost their first game in a row, 2-0 to Bangladesh Police FC, who was also in the same group.
Police and Sk Jamal will play each other on Thursday to see who wins the group.
Abahani Limited beat Rahmatganj MFS 2-0 thanks to goals from new player Stuart Cornilius and Brazilian Jonathon Fernandes. This secured their spot in the quarterfinals in Group B.
In the other Group B game, Sheikh Russel KC beat Bangladesh Air Force 1-0.
