Following the signing of a new contract with the Premier League and European Champions, Manchester City, midfielder Bernardo Silva from Portugal will remain with the club at least until 2026.

Silva had been rumored to be leaving the Etihad Stadium during the summer season, with Spanish powerhouse Barcelona long thought to be interested in the 29-year-old.

But now that his old contract was about to expire in 2025, he has put an end to any lingering rumors about his future by reaching an agreement on a new one with the treble-winning team from last season, City, who also won the FA Cup.

“I’ve had six incredible years at Manchester City and I’m delighted to extend my time here,” Silva said on the club’s website.

“I’m entering my eighth campaign with City. Since I’ve been here, we’ve only had one unsuccessful season, so being here till now has meant trophies and plenty of victories, and I want to win. I wanted to maintain this positive attitude since it is so pleasant.

Silva joined City in 2017 and has since made 308 appearances, scoring 55 goals and winning five Premier League championships, two FA Cups, four League Cups, and the Champions League with Pep Guardiola’s team.

“Bernardo has been exceptional during his time at the Etihad, so we’re delighted that he has signed a contract extension with the club,” said City director of football Txiki Begiristain.

He has excellent quality and technical skill, and thanks to his dedication and professionalism, he has advanced to become one of the top players in the world.

“Bernardo was so crucial to our treble-winning season, and we are confident that he can help us win even more trophies in the coming years.”

Silva has missed City’s past two games due to a minor injury, but he is anticipated to play in Saturday’s league game against Sheffield United.
