Shaw slams sixth-highest one-day score of 2440

On Wednesday, Prithvi Shaw of India hit an amazing 244 runs for Northamptonshire in their English county One-Day Cup match at home against Somerset. This was the sixth best score by an individual in a one-day match.

The 23-year-old batted first and hit 11 sixes and 28 fours in just 153 balls as Northamptonshire scored 415 runs and won by 87 runs at Wantage Road.

Shaw’s innings was the sixth highest individual score in any limited overs match. Only Ali Brown’s 268 for Surrey against Glamorgan in 2002 was a better single total in an English county match of this kind.

As a 14-year-old, he scored a huge 546 runs in a single innings during a school match. The right-hander’s first hundred runs on Wednesday came off 81 balls, and Shaw’s second hundred only took 48 balls.

Shaw, who was only 18 when he made his Test debut for India and scored a century, easily beat the previous record of 172 not out, set by former England opener Wayne Larkins in a 40-over match for Northamptonshire in 1983.

A post on Northamptonshire’s Twitter feed said, “We were not ready for this.”

“Prithvi Shaw has a new list.” A century and a half! There’s no way to describe how great this innings has been.

Shaw was finally out three balls before the end of the game. Danny Lamb’s seamer got him at deep mid-wicket.

Shaw made a double century in a local one-day match for the second time. The first time was in 2021, when he scored 227 runs without getting out for Mumbai against Puducherry.

Shaw has played for India in 12 international matches, including Tests, One-Day Internationals, and Twenty20 matches. The last time he played for India was two years ago.
