Shanto eager to lead in the long haul0

If the cricket board selects Najmul Hossain Shanto to be the Tigers’ next captain, he stated he is prepared to take the team’s leadership in all formats for the long run.

The two-Test series against New Zealand, which starts on Tuesday at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, will have Shanto leading the side in lieu of the injured Shakib Al Hasan.

The left-hander’s debut as the Tigers’ Test skipper will come today. Prior to this, he captained the side in three One-Day Internationals (ODIs), including two games during the just finished ICC World Cup in India while Shakib was not there.

If given the chance, the left-hander stated he is confident in his ability to lead the team in all formats.

Shanto stated, “In my opinion, I am capable of leading the team in every format,” during today’s pre-game news conference in Sylhet.

“It would be simpler for the person who takes over as captain to establish plans if they are granted a lengthy term. “I think that whoever is selected as the captain has the potential to be very successful if given enough chances,” he continued.

The Tigers’ campaign will also begin at the Sylhet during the 2023–25 ICC Test Championship season.

Shanto stated that the team’s main objective for the upcoming cycle will be to win more games at home.

“We have two Tests this year and twelve next year, totaling 14 matches. We truly value these games, especially the home games,” the 25-year-old stated.

It’s critical that we work out a strategy to win these games. This is our first team objective. Everybody wants to participate in games away from home,” he continued.

Following New Zealand, Bangladesh will play Test matches in their home country against South Africa and Sri Lanka as part of the tournament.

Shanto believes the Tigers have what it takes to defeat such clubs at home.

“We are a club that can win at home with to our hitters and bowling assault. Building that winning habit gradually is crucial, according to Shanto.
