Joe Root, the former captain of England, has declared that he will not be playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024. He is a member of the Rajasthan Royals.
“Joe informed us of his decision to not participate in the IPL 2024 during our retention conversations,” Rajasthan director Kumar Sangakkara was cited in a statement posted on the team’s website.
Joe was able to have such a tremendous influence on the team and the players surrounding him in a short amount of time. We will miss his presence within the group and his experience that he provided to the Royals. We fully accept his choice and wish him well in all of his endeavours,” he continued.
Root made his IPL debut for Rajasthan last season, however he only appeared in three matches and only once was given the opportunity to bat, giving him ten runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
With Ben Stokes of the Chennai Super Kings being the first high-profile English player to withdraw from the IPL for the next year, Root is the second.
