Ronaldo says saudi league 'more competitive' than french0

Cristiano Ronaldo maintained Friday that the much maligned Saudi Pro League was “more competitive” than the French Ligue 1.

“To be honest, I don’t believe the Saudi Championship is any worse than the French Championship. “I believe it’s more competitive,” said five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai.

Ronaldo became the first prominent celebrity to sign a contract with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia last January.

France’s Karim Benzema, Brazilian star Neymar, and Senegalese forward Sadio Mane have all departed Europe for lucrative contracts in the Gulf Kingdom.

When asked about the calibre of the Saudi Pro League, Ronaldo responded: “They can say anything they want; it’s just my opinion. I’ve played there for a year, so I know what I’m talking about.

“I think that now we are better than the French championship and we continue to improve.”
