Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan wants to move up a spot after being dropped to number five in the first two One-Day Internationals against New Zealand.
The 30-year-old has batted at number four since 2019, getting both his ODI hundreds there, although Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique have started the five-match series. Rizwan thrived as a finisher at five, helping his side win both games, but he indicated he didn’t want to remain there.
“If you ask me honestly, I am not happy batting at number five (in ODIs), because I want to bat at number four,” he told a press conference on Monday.
“I don’t need what I desire. Captain and coach will decide. I like batting fourth. I haven’t complained.”
Karachi hosts the last three ODIs after Rawalpindi hosted the first two. Wednesday is game three.
New Zealand’s Indian Premier League players and skipper Kane Williamson are injured.
Rizwan warned Pakistan not to become comfortable after trailing the last Twenty20 series 2-0 before drawing 2-2.
“We want to forget the past, good and bad,” Rizwan added.
“Rawalpindi had distinct needs. We’ll evaluate and adjust to win the series. That’s our focus.”
