On Wednesday, the veteran batsman Mahmudullah Riyad was seen practicing on his own at the BCB Academy pitch.
This comes while the rest of the players on the national team are taking a well-earned holiday following the home series against Afghanistan.
The 37-year-old player, who was dropped from the Bangladesh one-day international team following the home series against England in March of this year, was unable to even make it into the preliminary squad for the home series that just completed against Afghanistan.
Since Mahmudullah lost his spot on the national squad, concerns have been raised about his level of physical condition. The seasoned cricketer, who has recently returned to the country after completing the Hajj pilgrimage, has been spotted focusing on improving his level of physical fitness.
Following his time spent jogging, Mahmudullah walked to the nets, where he saw the right-hander competing against the spinners.
Even while the club management has not completely written off Mahmudullah’s prospects of making a comeback to the squad, the veteran player will need to put in a lot of effort if he wants to go back on the field.
With scores of 8, 32, 31, 20, and 77 in his previous five one-day internationals, many people believe that Mahmudullah still has a lot to contribute to Bangladesh, especially considering his huge experience, which might be useful in the next Asia Cup and World Cup later this year. His scores in his past five ODIs were as follows: 8, 32, 31, 20, and 77.
