Rain has washed out the first Twenty20 International between hosts South Africa and India in Durban, with no play likely on Sunday in the first game of the three-match series.

The match was supposed to begin at 1400 GMT, but the toss was postponed indefinitely, and the umpires eventually declared there was no chance of play in the drenched seaside city.

The match was to be the first of India’s all-format tour of South Africa, with T20 matches scheduled for Tuesday in Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth) and Thursday in Johannesburg.

They will then change formats for three One Day Internationals between December 17 and 21, with the first test beginning on December 26 in Pretoria and the second on January 3 at Newlands in Cape Town.
