On Wednesday at SuperSport Park in Centurion, KL Rahul scored a century and secured a catch behind the wickets for India during the second morning of the inaugural Test against South Africa.
South Africa responded to India’s first innings total of 245 with 49 for one at noon.
After a 137-ball innings that included fourteen fours and four sixes, Rahul was dismissed with a runless 101, his eighth in Test cricket and second in consecutive Centurion matches.
India’s overnight total of 208 for eight was increased by 37 runs subsequent to a 25-minute delay in the commencement of play caused by inclement weather.
Rahul added 47 runs for the ninth wicket with the assistance of overnight batsman Mohammed Siraj (5), as South Africa’s bowlers labored to close out the innings despite favourable bowling conditions and an overcast sky.
Initially, both Jasprit Bumrah and Aiden Markram bowled with precise control for South Africa, with Siraj having Markram caught behind by Rahul for five in the fourth over.
However, until lunch, Dean Elgar (29 not out) and Tony de Zorzi (12 not out) managed to persevere.
