Following the additions of Milan Skriniar and Marco Asensio this week, Paris Saint-Germain finalized the transfer of Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Portuguese club Sporting on Friday.
Ugarte was previously with the club Sporting.
Ugarte, who is 22 years old, has agreed to a five-year contract with the French champions, who allegedly paid a transfer price of something in the neighborhood of 60 million euros ($65.3 million) to fend off interest from Chelsea.
The defensive midfielder started his professional career in Montevideo with Fenix before making the move to Portugal to play for Famalicao. Soon after, Sporting became interested in him, and he has spent the previous two seasons playing with them.
Ugarte was not featured in any of Uruguay’s matches during the World Cup that took place in 2018.
He is Paris Saint-Germain’s third signing of the summer, after Skriniar and Asensio, both of whom joined the club on free transfers. As new head coach Luis Enrique aims to bolster his club for the next season, it is anticipated that France’s 2018 World Cup winning defensive player Lucas Hernandez will also join the squad.
Kylian Mbappe said one month ago that he would not extend his current contract, which is set to expire the next year. Despite this, doubts continue to be raised over the future of Kylian Mbappe.
If there is no change to his position, the club must sell the player within the current transfer window; otherwise, they will likely lose him for free when his agreement expires. If there is no change to his stance, the club must sell the player during the current transfer window.
