Chelsea lost 3-1 at West Ham United on Sunday, so new boss Mauricio Pochettino will have to wait at least five more days for his first win.
Nayef Aguerd’s header, Michail Antonio’s goal on the break, and Lucas Paqueta’s late penalty gave West Ham the win, even though Aguerd was sent off for a second yellow card in the middle of the second half.
James Ward-Prowse, who just moved to West Ham from Southampton this month, helped set up the first two goals.
Carney Chukwuemeka scored a well-taken equalizer for Chelsea in the 28th minute to cancel out Aguero’s goal. Chelsea could only blame themselves for the loss because they had most of the ball, missed chances, and had Enzo Fernandez’s penalty saved.
Pochettino put on the club’s newest big-money signing, Moises Caicedo, to try to save something, but Caicedo gave away the penalty that ended his team’s chances of winning.
West Ham has four points from their first two games, while Chelsea has only one point and will play Luton Town next Friday.
