Phillips reveals reason behind annoyance after dismissal0

Glenn Phillips’ counterpunching performance on the third day of the second Test against Bangladesh got New Zealand back into the game, allowing the visitors to take an eight-run first innings lead after starting the day on 55-5.

Phillips struck nine fours and four sixes in his 87-ball performance before being caught by Mehedi Hasan Miraz off the bowling of Shoriful Islam.

Miraz rushed back and dived to his left to execute a challenging catch to complete the dismissal after the right-hander miscued a lofted shot.

However, after falling 13 runs short of his first Test century, the 27-year-old appeared more angry than sad.

Phillips explained his dissatisfaction in the press conference following the day’s play, noting that his focus was disrupted just before facing the delivery that took him out.

“Just at the last second when Shoriful got into his delivery stride, someone walked out from the side of the sight screen and I mean, I should have pulled away,” Phillips said.

“However, it was also like in my head. It’s probably too late now. “I didn’t watch the ball, I didn’t pull away, I didn’t do anything, and I knicked it off,” he continued.

Following Phillips’ dismissal, New Zealand was rolled over for 180 points.

The day’s action concluded with the hosts leading 38-2 in the second inning.
