Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has been removed from his post as one of three consultants to head selector Wahab Riaz by the country’s cricket board, just one day after being appointed.
Butt, who was banned from cricket for five years for his role in spot-fixing in Pakistan’s London Test in 2010, has been named Wahab’s consultant, along with former Pakistan batsmen Kamran Akmal and Rao Iftikhar Anjum.
Butt was appointed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the first time since his ban lifted in 2015.
Butt’s appointment caused a tremendous outcry in Pakistan cricket, leading to his unceremonious removal from the job.
Chief selector Wahab made the statement at a news conference on Saturday, assuring everyone that Butt will not be involved in team selection in any way.
