The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) updated a tribute video to honor the country’s first and only ODI World Cup win in 1992. This time, it included previous captain Imran Khan.
When PCB first shared the film on August 14 to celebrate its Independence Day, it left out the leader of the team that won the World Cup in 1992. This caused a lot of anger.
The PCB re-released the modified video on Thursday, calling it the “original version” and saying that the earlier video was missing “significant clips due to time constraints.”
“The PCB has started a drive to get people excited about the CWC 2023. On August 14, 2023, one of the videos was released. The video was cut down because it was too long, and some important parts were left out. This has been fixed in the full version of the movie,” PCB wrote on its social media site along with the new video.
The new version of the video has four new parts: Khan’s accomplishments and how he won the prized trophy as captain in 1992, Misbah-ul-Haq’s Test mace win, the Women’s team’s Asia Cup win, and Nida Dar’s 100 wickets.
Wasim Akram, who played with Khan on the team that won the 1992 World Cup, had also criticized the PCB for leaving Imran Khan out of the film.
Akram wrote on Twitter, “After long trips and hours of delay before reaching Sri Lanka, I got the shock of my life when I watched PCB’s short clip on the past of Pakistan cricket without the great Imran Khan… Even though they have different political views, Imran Khan is a legend in the world of cricket. He made Pakistan a strong team and gave us a way to get there. PCB should get rid of the video and say sorry.”
