Youth and sports minister Nazmul Hassan Papon stressed on Sunday that the repair work at the country’s biggest athletic arena, the Bangabandhu National Stadium, will be completed by December.

Papon relayed this instruction to the authorities involved in the BNS renovation during a review meeting with youth and sports secretary Dr Mohiuddin Ahmed, additional secretary (administration) M Mostafa Kamal Majumder, additional secretary (development) M Ubaidul Haque, National Sports Council secretary, and respective project directors.

“I have asked the project directors to complete the renovation work at BNS as soon as possible and within the deadline,” Papon said in a ministry news statement.

The minister also said that he would tour the BNS, the Sheikh Russel mini-stadiums, and a stadium being developed for impaired athletes.

“Today, I met with persons working in three sports-related priority initiatives. You are aware that Sheikh Russel small stadiums are being created in every upazila per the Prime Minister’s instructions. In the first phase, 125 micro stadiums were erected, and another 186 are now under construction. In addition, I was told about the development of a stadium for impaired athletes near to the national parliament, as well as the BNS. “I will soon visit these projects,” Papon added, emphasising the need of maintaining and using all athletic facilities around the nation.
