Officials said Tuesday that Pakistan has moved a two-match home Test series against the West Indies to 2025 so that they can better prepare for next year’s Twenty20 World Cup.
The Pakistan Cricket Board said that the team would now play an extra 10 Twenty20 matches against New Zealand in the 2023-2024 season, while a home series of two Tests and three Twenty20s against the West Indies would be moved to January 2025.
The board said in a statement that the move was a “strategic decision” to give players the best chances to prepare for the T20 World Cup in 2024.
Pakistan and New Zealand will play T20s on January 12 in Auckland, January 14 in Hamilton, January 17 in Dunedin, and January 19 and 21 in Christchurch.
In April 2024, New Zealand will go back to Pakistan for five T20s.
In June 2024, the West Indies and the United States will host the next T20 World Cup.
Before that, Pakistan has three T20s away from home against the Netherlands, two away from home against Ireland, and four away from home against England.
The PCB also said that its women’s team will go to New Zealand in December to play three Twenty20s and the same number of One-Day Internationals.
