Nzc rope in family members of cricketers to announce wc squad0

The New Zealand Cricket (NZC) unveiled their World Cup squad by having the families of the selected 15 players do the honors of reading off the list of players’ names.

On Monday, NZC uploaded a video to social media platform X (which was formerly known as Twitter). In a manner that had never been done before, the movie featured members of the players’ families yelling out their names.

The members of the cricketers’ families—including their children, wives, mothers, grandmothers, and fiancés—made the announcement by reciting their players’ cap numbers.

The video begins with Kane Williamson’s wife and children reciting the number of ODI caps that their father has earned for New Zealand. It was then followed by the children of Trent Boult, the wives of Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, the daughters of Daryl Mithcell and Tim Southee, the fiance of Lockie Ferguson, Jimmy Neesham’s grandmother, Will Young’s mother, and the parents of Rachin Ravidnra.

Williamson is expected to lead the Blackcaps, but head coach Gary Stead stated that it is uncertain whether the 33-year-old would be ready in time for the Blackcaps’ opening World Cup game against England on October 5 in Ahmedabad. Williamson is still rehabilitating from a long-term knee ligament injury. England will play the Blackcaps on October 5.

Tom Latham has been given the responsibility of keeping wickets for the Blackcaps. He was appointed Williamson’s deputy, and he holds the record for most catches made by a keeper at the previous iteration of the competition, with 21.

On his 100th One-Day International (ODI) appearance, which was also his first in over a year, Trent Boult made his return to the Black Caps by taking three wickets in Sunday’s loss to England by 79 runs. He did this by knocking the top of the hosts’ batting line-up during his 100th ODI game. He is the most experienced member of a fast bowling lineup that also includes Lockie Fergusen and Matt Henry. He leads the lineup.

Neesham, an all-rounder who played for New Zealand during the 2019 World Cup final, which was decided by a tense Super Over, also made the 15-man side, while Ravindra is the spin-bowling all-rounder. Neesham came within a whisker of glory of winning the tournament for New Zealand.

As a result of their participation in the Twenty20 World Cup in the past, Conway, Phillips, Mitchell, and Chapman have all clinched their first ever spots in the World Cup.

Santner and Sodhi, who bowls leg spin, are the ones in charge of the spin bowling section.
