Newcastle smash sheffield united in 8-0 thrashing 0

The 8-0 thrashing of Sheffield United that Newcastle delivered at Bramall Lane on Sunday came dangerously close to tying the record for largest win margin in Premier League play.

The team coached by Eddie Howe scored a ton of goals, including ones from Sean Longstaff, Dan Burn, Sven Botman, Callum Wilson, Anthony Gordon, Miguel Almiron, and Bruno Guimaraes. Alexander Isak also scored for the Eddie Howe side.

In the history of the Premier League, Manchester United’s 9-0 victory against Ipswich in 1995 and their 9-0 victory over Southampton in 2021 hold the record for the largest victory margin ever recorded in the league.

In 2018, Liverpool defeated Bournemouth by a score of 9-0, while Leicester was able to accomplish the same feat against Southampton in 2019.

The Blades are now in last place in the Premier competition standings after suffering their worst loss in the history of the competition.

Paul Heckingbottom’s position as manager is in jeopardy after his team earned only one point from their first six matches since returning to the English premier league.

“The goals we conceded in the first half were really poor, but it’s the second half I’m upset with,” said Heckingbottom. “I thought we were better than that.”

“The errors that led to goals were a lot of things I’d never seen before, and there are some things that simply cannot be tolerated.”

The fact that Newcastle had lost three of their first five league games of the season put a damper on fans’ hopes that the Saudi Arabian-backed Magpies might fight for the crown.

On Tuesday, the team coached by Howe was competing in the Champions League for the first time in twenty years when they faced AC Milan on the road and ended up drawing 0-0.

However, Newcastle did not display any symptoms of weariness during the encounter, and they demonstrated their depth of talent by becoming the first team in the history of the Premier League to have eight different goal scorers in a single game (this does not include own goals).

“I thought we were really good, and once the goals came, the confidence returned,” said Howe. “Once the goals came, I thought we were really good.”

What a fantastic reaction the guys have given over the last week.

At a time when respects were being paid to Maddy Cusack, the game had gotten off to a strong start for Sheffield United at an emotional Bramall Lane.

The woman, who was 27 years old and worked in the club’s commercial department in addition to her role as the player with the longest tenure at the club’s women’s side, passed away earlier this week.

However, the home team completely imploded as a result of three goals scored by Newcastle inside a span of 14 minutes.

Before centre-backs Dan Burn and Sven Botman headed goals in from crosses by Kieran Trippier, Longstaff finished off Gordon’s cross by sweeping it into the back of the net.

Shortly after the halftime break, Trippier completed his treble of assists by setting up Wilson with a pass.

Just after the hour mark, Gordon concluded a dazzling performance by cutting inside and curling a wonderful effort from 20 yards into the lower corner of the goal. The score was 5-0 at that point.

Before Guimaraes capitalized on a loose ball inside the box, Almiron’s pinpoint shot struck the bottom corner to make it six goals for the team.

Isak, who had come in as a substitute, rounded up the scoring by converting a loose header that had been taken by Tom Davies.

With the win, Newcastle moves up to eighth place and is now just five points away from the top four.
