Nafees Iqbal, a former Bangladesh cricket player, has been hired again as the team manager for Bangladesh’s upcoming home match against New Zealand.
The elder brother of former ODI captain Tamim Iqbal, Nafees, told The Daily Star that he would be going back to his old job.
Nafees was managing the Tigers’ team until the September series against New Zealand. That was Bangladesh’s last two-match series against a neighbouring country before the ICC World Cup 2023.
Nafees left the locker room during the third and final ODI of that series. The game was still going to happen. Later it came out that he had been left out of Bangladesh’s World Cup team, allegedly because captain Shakib Al Hasan told them not to.
Since he hurt himself in the World Cup match against Sri Lanka, Shakib, who is also captain of the Test team, will not be able to play in the two-Test series against the Black Caps.
Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead the Tigers in the series while Shakib is away.
From November 28, the first Test will be held at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
From December 6 to 12, the second and last Test will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
